"After all, tomorrow is another day!"
Well, I'm not going to be having a full detailed description on a few of these tonight, nor am I going to have a story to go along with them.
I've been really busy, and have been able to watch a few movies, but alas, haven't had an opportunity to put them on the Internet. After today the posts will be of single movies, not of a large grouping, as this one is. Enjoy!
"My head stopped my body from getting really hurt on that. "
Having never visited the Movie Tavern in Denton before, I was a little excited (ok, more than a little) excited to make it there finally to view Jackass Number Two. Of course the usual characters are present with Johnny Knoxville hosting. The constant antics are both hilarious and disgusting and without divulging any more information I have to go on to the critique without anymore plot/stunt happenings.
The camera work was just as though it was in the first one, amateur yet professional. Go figure. The guys are funny and hilarious. If you enjoyed the first Jackass then you'll enjoy Number Two. Some stunts are disgusting and some are gross, but nothing quite as bad as giving yourself paper cuts.
My review is different for this one simply because it's a set of stunts and not really a feature film.

Beautiful Landscape, a few bumps and bruises and Jet Li!
After a long day of work, and no end in sight (it was only Tuesday) my father and I decided to visit a new theater in Lewisville which I had just opened. While eating dinner, we decided that Fearless, the new and final Jet Li martial art epic. Based on the true story of a Huo Yuan Jia (or in English Huo Yuanjia) who created the Jin Wu Sports Federation in the early 1900's. Granted I'm a big fan of "true story" movies, but I'm getting a little tired of every story being true and then further research shows it was far from true. Granted a few of the movies in the past few years have been much closer to fact than this. So, it's a true story, with some changes, of course.
Born to a Wushu master, Yanjia wanted to be just like his dad and unfortunately was full of pride after his father died. He never lost a fight and was very prideful. After killing an rival Wushu master, Yanjia arrives at home seeing his family killed and then approaches the opposing Masters home. After realizing what he had done, he begins to wander around the lands. After attempting to drown himself he is found by Moon who helps him recuperate his mental stability and learns to love life.
After a few years he returns to Tanjin, his birthplace, to find the Europeans have immigrated and began taking over China. No spoilers here, gotta see the movie for the rest of the answers.
Great, GREAT! cinematography. Some of the actors I could've done without, especially the child actors. Oh well, they're young. The directing was wonderful and the moral of the story is very obvious.
This is another movie which you can't look up the true story before ya see it. It's true to the fact that there was a guy with the name, but that's about the extent of it, the rest was born out of legend.

"Go easy on the ref, he knows he made a bad call."
I'm a big fan of sports movies, so it was only a matter of time that I would see Gridiron Gang. The movie begins with a fight in a detention center which The Rock breaks up and has a chat with the young man who is going to be leaving the next day. A few scenes later he is hit by a car from a rival gang which angers his cousin who then wants revenge, but unfortunately shots his step-father after fighting with him. Thus his cousin is back in the detention center from whence is cousin just came. The Rock then approaches his boss and asks to create a football team.
The Kilpatrick Mustangs develop into a formidable football team after a few months and they begin to win games.
The directing is nice, reminiscent of Any Given Sunday. The kids playing the "inmates" are surprisingly good for such young kids.
Definitely a heartfelt movie for teens who have questioned whether or not their in the "right" crowd. The moral story is worth watching the movie by itself. The movie was much more true to the story than Fearless. Then again, it was only 13 years ago that this really happened. Acting was impressive for such a young cast, but the movie still dragged in some parts.

"There's guys you can hit and guys you can't hit. Now he's not a guy you can't hit, but he's pretty close to a guy you can't hit."
Where to begin? There are a few movies which I've sat down to watch and I just cannot describe how great of a movie it is. Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction and Shindlers List are just a few that fall in this category. But The Departed is perhaps the best movie I've seen in a long time.
Based on a trilogy of Hong Kong films called Internal Affairs, which I haven't seen, but am tempted to hunt down online. The movie begins with the explanation of racial tensions in South Boston, and how an Irishmen became a Mafia leader. Then we see a young man who is given some money from Jack Nicholson to pay for his meal. Come to find out the young man is Matt Damon who is in the State Police Academy, while watching his training we see Leonardo Dicaprio doing through the same Academy. After they're training they both appear before they're new Captain (Martin Sheen) and his sidekick (Mark Wahlberg). After a very quick discussion Matt Damon is added to the investigation team. On his way out he passes Leo, who is then berated by Mark Wahlberg he decides to go undercover to infiltrate Jack Nicholsons team to give information to the State to set up a case against Jack.
The movie is close to 2 1/2 hours long and I felt as though it was an hour. The plot advances quickly and the characters emerge much faster than the plot.
Martin Scorsese may perhaps be my favorite director after this film. I am absolutely amazed by what he did with this movie. The directing is wonderful, the acting is possibly more amazing than the directing.
If any movie is to have more Academy Award nominations this year, I'll be amazed. I think there should be a cast wide best actor nomination. Jack Nicholson plays a great evil person; Matt Damon doesn't lose an accent and plays the cop to a T; Leo has redeemed himself for his acting in Titanic; Martin Sheen is better than I've ever seen him. There's not one bad thing I can say about this cast. It is an amazing movie. Absolutely amazing!
Note: You MUST watch the movie to watch the movie, the plot and the script are the most important part of this movie. You can't watch this movie for entertainment, you have to watch EVERYTHING.

"The woods is no place for a bear!"
I'm a fan of the animated quirky films that are fun and entertaining to watching, ya know, Ice Age, Madagascar type. I enjoy them, they're fun without having to watch them extremely hard like The Departed. But, I was a little dismayed by Open Season. I had my hopes high after Ashton Kutcher's performance in the Guardian and always been a closet fan of Martin Lawrence so I had expected an exciting movie. Well, it was a little... random. Probably the best way to describe it. I enjoyed the movie, it was entertaining, so I guess the film makers fulfilled their purpose. But a little bit unrealistic.
Plot can be summed up in a few sentences: Bear (Lawrence) raised in captivity meets a deer (Kutcher) and begin a friendship which after a night of sweets causes the bear to not perform well at his performance and scares the crowd, so he has to be taken back to the wild the day before Open Season starts. The bear and the deer then become reluctant friends who team up with the local wildlife in defending themselves from the hunters.
Cute kids movie, but not an adult film. Probably rent it for a kid under 10. Good animation but the story was a little random to say the least.
My parents didn't really enjoy it, but they don't like animation that much anyway.
Entertaining from my perspective, but still not great.

Employee of the Month:
A comedy about a slacker wanting to win over the hot new girl by becoming the employee of the month at his Costco like store.
Funny, but not hilarious. Better than I had expected, plus the eye candy isn't quite so bad.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Man of the Year:
Has it's moments, but has a better moral than comedy feel. Lewis Black's hands gives me motion sickness. But, you have to ask what you would do put in Robin Williams position.
